Project: OCD

Happy Sunday All!

I'm getting really excited for the New Year! I am hoping  - much like every other year... - that I become more organized this 2016. It's always a struggle. I start off really good in the beginning and then I crash and burn a few months into the year. I think I get too overwhelmed and try to get too organized. I'm going to take a different approach this year and simplify it a little bit.

For 2016 I have a new project/challenge for everyone. This is a group effort and we can use the Facebook page to give and receive advice. Are you in yet?

Good.

PROJECT: OCD

If that doesn't get ya, I don't know what will:) I am still working out the kinks, but I'm hoping to have a completed guideline soon. Now keep in mind that I have never fully done this so we will sort of be learning this together along the way.

The goal of this operation is to have your house ORGANIZED, CLEANED and DESIGNED by the end of the year. How's that sound? Nearly impossible. I'm hoping I can stick to a few rules myself and actually make it happen.

Do you have a few projects that you just couldn't complete?
Something lingering that you just don't feel like getting to?
A project you saw on Pinterest that you really wanted to try but just are afraid to start it?
A closet that needs organizing and painted but you just don't know when to start?

As cheesy as this is going to sound... This is the project for you! *holding up two big dorky thumbs  and a mirror shattering grin

Everyones' core list will look different from the next person's. That's the fun - everyone has different goals which will be having them working on different projects.

To start, I made a list of TWELVE (12 months of the year people, stick with me here!) rooms/spaces in the house (or out) that I needed to work on.
This will help me stick to one area a month rather than what I have been doing - bouncing from area to area.

Now just because we have one area to focus on each month, that doesn't mean you have to forgo doing your daily/weekly/monthly chores. For instance, if December you have bathroom as your focus , you can still work on organizing your Christmas decor or finally work on a spreadsheet for your Christmas card recipients.
I'm really going to try and stick to one space but we all stray a little bit don't we?;)

Here's my list:

[In no particular order, yet]

Living Room
Office
Dining Room
Kitchen
Hallways & Stairway
Bedroom 1
Bedroom 2
"Temporary Master Bedroom"
Foyers - Front & Back
Yard & Garage/Shed
Upstairs Bathroom
Downstairs Bathroom

Walk around the house and make a list of the rooms you want to see changed or even just finished. As you stop in each space - make a list of things that you would like to see done in these rooms, then we will fine-tune our lists after we gather some ideas:)

I hope you guys get as excited as I am about this operation! I am enjoying having things down on paper that I want to complete in each room - to me, that's half the battle.

side | bar

I cannot believe I forgot to show you guys the star of the show on Thanksgiving -- our BLOODY MARY BAR!
My gosh it was so cute - I want to do something like this every time we entertain:)

The table was even fuller than this by the time we were done!

AND... I'm obsessed with them now. I've had about 2-3 (mostly virgins, of course) every day since then... Most of our grocery budget has been spent on tomato juice.

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
