our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house.

This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos..

The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!

Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!

Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up!

This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.

Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...

And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)

We were able to get an extra two feet for the width of the bathroom by taking out the closet in the larger room. (I'll reveal later how we made a new closet for that room:))

We also decided to turn this bathroom into a Jack & Jill bathroom to eliminate the fourth door in the hallway and making it more private for our future mini Aprile's.

AND.... The Big Reveal!

^This photo is actually taken from the same angle as the one above-to give you some idea of the space.

The vanity is made from my husband's great grandfather's work bench. It was taken apart and shrunken in size and then put back together to make it a better fit for the space.
The vintage medicine chest I scoured Craig's List to find. The man we bought it from says it is from a mini Victorian mansion up north. I always like to hear the story behind vintage pieces I find :)

We exposed the brick in the bathroom and also in the hall (photos to come).
(It still needs another layer of paint and caulking)

*we have yet to install the toilet paper holder... ugh.

Inside our teeny, but functional linen closet. We still need to cut and stain the last shelf for the top but you get the idea.

Our amazing shower! With a custom (gigantic) built in shelf for my giant bottle of conditioner..

You will never believe the deal we got on this subway tile... It cost us about $30 to tile this whole shower! We were so luck to have found those tiles in the back of Lowes! We even got enough to redo the backslash in the kitchen--way in the future:)

This was taken from the larger bedroom on the front of the house. This was where the closet used to be.

Well that's our new Jack & Jill bathroom:) I hope you enjoyed!
Next project to complete: Master Bedroom.. eventually:)

Stay tuned folks!

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

certains things just belong at home..

The other day my aunt and I were pulling of the driveway about to do some shopping and someone had pulled off onto the side of the road. He waved us down and asked if I owned the house - it feels so good to say "Yes", although I'm a horrible liar and should have said "I will in 20-30 years."  He informed us that he wasn't a creep [which made me think he might just be a creep - just kidding!] and that he lived in the house two owners ago [from 1993-2001-ish]. He said he was unpacking some boxes and came across something he thought should stay with the house and thought I may like it. He saw that we were doing a lot on the house and thought we were doing a really good job - well duh.  He pulled out two nicely framed photos: This is the original home owner! Can you even right now? This was taken over 100 years ago, guys!     I zoomed in so we could go into greater detail. 1. There's a hammock on the porch - I love hammocks!...

Friday Fancys!

Today is the debut for my Friday Fancys post!  Every Friday I want to do a fun post about "Whatever suits my Fancy"! Things that make me happy that I want to talk about that week - anything. Any topic, any subject - anything. I need ideas from all of you to get me through all 52 weeks this year too!  Recently my best friend reintroduced me into alliterations and I thought this would be the perfect place to expose my new found love:) As I mentioned in my New Year post - making routine posts for you to get excited about is one of my 2015 goals. I think it goes without saying that my main passion - among other things - is design and all things creative. You may know that about me, but do you know where I get my main inspiration? Do you know what really makes me tick? What really gives me goosebumps when I see a completed space on TV or in real life? Maybe you don't care, maybe you do - if you don't - you should probably hit that little red x in the left co...
