5 Things in my DREAM kitchen

So it is December already and I have pretty much failed at my 2016 challenge of focusing on one room a month.. I would love to say that I have been doing some really important things and that is the reason I have failed at blogging regularly but alas, that is not the case. I have been extra lazy and have started and not finished several projects in the house..

For instance, we recently painted and rearranged our bedroom. Since we moved in, this room had no trim on some of the walls and crappy trim on the remaining walls. I always feel like finishing touches are the things that make the space. So, we re-trimmed the bedroom and it's awesome! It finally feels about 70% finished. In all of our apartments, our bedroom was the last thing (if ever) to get attention. It felt like a hodge podge of furniture and bedding. I have long wanted a master like in the movies or magazines. I have a few more finishing touches to put into this space and it will be ready to blog:)

Another space I have been working on is the dining room. Gosh. Every time I walk in there I feel like we just moved in. Nothing on the walls, too few pieces of furniture - just blah. I finally put together a nice space and it will be ready to blog soon as well:) I painted a cabinet I previously had and it looks great - all it needed was a color change and it totally fit the space!  We put in a herringbone patterned rug to pull the entire space together and I LERVE it!

A room that hubs and I would love to tackle next is.. the KITCHEN!
Although we don't have a definite date on when the project would start, I have compiled several pins on my Pinterest board showing how I would like my dream kitchen to look:)

And without further ado - my DREAM kitchen!

1. Open Shelving

Many of you may know that serving ware is my weakness. Serving bowls, appetizer plates, vintage glassware - they're all my FAVORITES! I want all my favorites to be on display. I love when things act as art AND happen to be functional at the same time:)

2. Plenty of Storage!

I love nothing more than to have everything in its special place. I can't seem to function correctly when things are not in order. I like when everything makes sense and has space to breathe:)

3. Lots of Texture!

Our kitchen has been previously described as amish-like and sterile.. White kitchens used to be all the rage - clean and simple. Not anymore. I need to have some visual interest. Currently we have white tile, white cabinets and white countertops - what?? I can't take it anymore! I need something to keep my eyes busy!

Different wood tones, detailed moldings, anything to keep your eyes interested:)

4. Butler's Pantry

My DREAM dream kitchen would have a butler's pantry to display all of my lovely dish ware, BUT the layout of ours just won't allow for that. We luckily have a really large kitchen, but when 3 out of 4 walls have huge windows (not complaining!), it makes it really hard to add wall storage.. So sad to say that this dream house will not sport a beautiful butler's pantry - but hey, a girl can dream!

* not an actual butler's pantry, but just shows how I would display my dishes if I were able to have this little nook:)

5. Cozy Breakfast Nook

Seriously. Who doesn't love a good nook? You know I do!
I always envy cozy kitchens in television shows - it looks like they have no worries in the world. I would love a cozy place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a good book in the morning. In this scenario I have no job and no bills.. YAY!

So, what are your kitchen dreams??

The good thing about having a car that many others own - you own a well-liked, reliable car. The bad thing about having a car that many others own - you tend to open car doors that aren't yours at the post office while having the actual owner of said vehicle say "Oh, that's me" while pointing over at my actual vehicle..

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
