while bae is away..

...shit gets done around here!

Husbie was out of town this last week and I needed to keep myself busy to help pass the time. There's only so much cleaning around the house I can do until my fingers turn into raisins. I have had (and still have) a long extensive list of projects to do around the house.

Some of the things you would find on said list:

Update ceiling fan in office
Attempt to hang TV on [crumbling] lath and plaster wall...
Paint new desk for office
Paint new dresser purchased for Vintage 202
Organize studio space above garage
Get office back into working order

The list really goes on and on...
BUT, I accomplished at least a part of each of the things on the list:)

I have been overwhelmed with all the work that needs to be done in the yard that I have decided to take a hiatus for the week. Best decision this year - I got so much accomplished!

Since purchasing a new computer I really wanted to make my office a space that I enjoy being in for long periods of time for blogging, shopping, researching etc.
Mission accomplished! I am obsessed with my new desk! My old desk was super large and had the file drawer right in it - so nice! Unfortunately the new one does not, although it is still fairly large (in a different way). I will be showing you guys how I managed to keep the filing system still accessible while being semi tucked away at the same time.

I was also able to update the fan blades with a couple of coats of paint - supes easy. Although the blades haven't made it back onto the fan so we will see how it turns out shortly:/
The rest is coming together slowly.
I still have a few shelves to hang, some furniture to select and some art to display:)

Another thing that I have been really not wanting to physically do - organize my studio space. It's hot and sticky and dirty and just such a mess! [Don't be confused - it's the most amazing space I could dream of. Exposed beams, old wood floor, huge ceiling height etc.] I really didn't have any idea how to organize this in a way that makes sense.

I have so much stuff up there from old windows from the house to old doors that we no longer are using to furniture that needs to be restored and sold. Motivation kicked into high gear and I made it work. Surprisingly.

The biggest challenge - at least it was in my head - was getting our big TV hung on our crumbling plaster wall.. I hate having to dust around it on the cabinet and having it hung looks soooo much more updated and clean:) It was rather simple, actually. I recruited my aunt to help me with this project [among most of the others] and she was quite hesitant in the beginning. She didn't want to have any part in the possibility of the house falling to the ground. After a short half hour or so (and two margaritas later) we had the TV hung! I couldn't believe what I was seeing - it looks so amazing on the wall! It motivated me to hang a few pieces of art too:)

I encourage you all to complete some of those nagging tasks that you have been meaning to do for weeks/months/years! I want to hear about your progress!

Our little pooper head turned FOUR earlier this week!
She still acts like she's a puppy tho... Maybe she didn't get the memo.

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
