it's been awhile | we're expecting!

now that I got your attention...

. . .

It's been a long time comin' but we are finally expecting grass! We check each day the progress of our little baby blades - we're such giddy parents it's embarrassing.. We show everyone that comes over - I even showed the garage door guy!

This is what I plan to do once the grass fills in:)

Last week we took the week off to solely focus on the yard. We spread grass seed, we transplanted bushes and peonies (!), and we got poison ivy... I thought I had gotten off scot -free but I had a little bump poke up last night. Dang. We were lucky enough to have my wonderful aunt come over and kick us into high gear - unfortunately we paid her in poison ivy as well.. She's being a great sport about it though:)

What actually inspired me when planning out what to put in the yard and all the surrounding beds was my wedding bouquet!

I have my resting bitch face on but this is the only photo that I could find that really shows how great our flowers were! And plus - how beautiful are my bridesmaids?!

My florist/stylist, Kelly with Interwine, was an absolute magician! She did such an amazing job at reading my mind - which is nearly impossible. She took every word out of my mouth and put it into beautiful tangible goodness! I am so happy I found her during our search for vendors - we got everything we could have hoped for and more! Check out her work HERE!

Some of the flowers we planted:

Astilbe

I am not one to usually think that flowers smell particularly good but this one definitely does!
They are so sweet and carefree - we had to have them:)

At first, we purchased only 3 plants - now we have decided to go back and get a few more! How adorable are these guys?

Dusty Miller

I was very specific when talking to Kelly that I did not want any greenery. People think redheads look great in green, I beg to differ.. I think it clashes. I told her I didn't even want to show the stems of the flowers! She was very skeptical because she does a lot of greenery (which is still beautiful) on many of her pieces. However, I found some semi - greenery that I absolutely adore - Dusty Miller! I guess it's almost grey - which is my favorite color so I'm okay with that:)

It's name is even adorable:) It's just as velvety as it looks, too! It comes in different shapes and shades. I was so happy when I found it at the grocery store, that I about knocked over a display - oops.
We have yet to plant it but I am hoping it will  mesh well with what we currently have.

Peonies (my absolute favorite)

We were lucky enough to find some in the yard already! They were sort of spread out a little so we bunched them together in a corner to hopefully make a nice bundle for us:)
Hubs also got me some peony bulbs for Mother's Day - fur babies are still babies! - so we planted them in another corner of the yard. I have a feeling by the end of this yard overhaul, there will be peonies in every corner!

These attract ants - so if you plan on having them in your yard, plant them away from the house! Also, be sure to shake them before you bring fresh cut ones into the house, even the ones from the grocery store!

We have some others that were not included in our bridal bouquets and boutonnieres:

Hydrangeas

You really can't go wrong with these cuties - they are just so whimsical.

Right now we only have two planted, but I'm sure we will end up putting them everywhere as well.

Lily of the Valley

This is not my favorite, but my florist said it is very costly to get, so I'm keeping it:)

It's literally EVERYWHERE. There was so much of it, we had to start tearing it out because I didn't want it to take over the yard! I do have one spot on the back of the house by the door that I plan on letting it run wild.

Some of the flowers we plan on putting in:

I still have yet to do some research about these - I am hoping they all will work in this climate!

Billy Balls

How adorable!

Anenomes!!!!!

I can't even with these!

These were also in my bouquet:) ^that is not mine, however.
These also come in many different colors.

I tried to stay very vintage with my selections - I hope two two one is happy with what I chose:)

. . .

We are at a dilemma with whether to do mulch or stone. I like the look of mulch BUT we have leaves dump down on our yard and it is really really difficult to get them out of the mulch without making a huge disaster. I like stone but hubs says no. Thoughts?

I even thought about mixing it like these:

What would you guys choose?

Keep in mind our flower selection!
And the leaves - don't forget the leaves!

In other news:

I got a new Mac and I am over the moon about it:) So plan on hearing from me much much more!
The delivery man definitely had a sight to see walking up to the house - Me rushing to get the grass watered [so I could enjoy the rest of the day with my new computer], no bra, and hair out to the sides every which way...

Tiff even wanted to get in on the action!

Yay! Bye reality for the next month!

Also, we have plans to refinish the floors next month! IF the wood is in good enough condition.. Cross your fingers!

We are also configuring new garage doors that we will hopefully have put in soon as well!

Lots of things going on over here so stay posted!

  1. You really got me with that "we're expecting" bit. I really enjoy your blog, it reminds me of our conversations from high school sometimes. Best wishes on all your present and future projects. ✌😊

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

certains things just belong at home..

The other day my aunt and I were pulling of the driveway about to do some shopping and someone had pulled off onto the side of the road. He waved us down and asked if I owned the house - it feels so good to say "Yes", although I'm a horrible liar and should have said "I will in 20-30 years."  He informed us that he wasn't a creep [which made me think he might just be a creep - just kidding!] and that he lived in the house two owners ago [from 1993-2001-ish]. He said he was unpacking some boxes and came across something he thought should stay with the house and thought I may like it. He saw that we were doing a lot on the house and thought we were doing a really good job - well duh.  He pulled out two nicely framed photos: This is the original home owner! Can you even right now? This was taken over 100 years ago, guys!     I zoomed in so we could go into greater detail. 1. There's a hammock on the porch - I love hammocks!...

Friday Fancys!

Today is the debut for my Friday Fancys post!  Every Friday I want to do a fun post about "Whatever suits my Fancy"! Things that make me happy that I want to talk about that week - anything. Any topic, any subject - anything. I need ideas from all of you to get me through all 52 weeks this year too!  Recently my best friend reintroduced me into alliterations and I thought this would be the perfect place to expose my new found love:) As I mentioned in my New Year post - making routine posts for you to get excited about is one of my 2015 goals. I think it goes without saying that my main passion - among other things - is design and all things creative. You may know that about me, but do you know where I get my main inspiration? Do you know what really makes me tick? What really gives me goosebumps when I see a completed space on TV or in real life? Maybe you don't care, maybe you do - if you don't - you should probably hit that little red x in the left co...
