change is good.

So, remember a few weeks ago when hubs and I went to the meeting with the Historical Society? Well... I work there now.

For those of you that don't know me, I was employed by a prestigious financial center as a professional bank teller. I have been unhappy there for months but didn't know what I needed to do to turn things around for me. Start a new job and be unhappy there in a few months? Continue on this toxic path and find myself in a bad place? Or quit? I took the latter.

Recently, I read an article that was titled "How quitting my corporate job for my startup dream f***ed my life up". I'm not sure why I felt I should open the link because I was in a fragile state already, but in the end it was a happy story for this particular person - that's what I'm working towards.

Originally, I was going to just quit and start from there. I had no plans to search for another corporate job - zero. I was going to spend more time working on my vintage furniture business, Vintage 202, and continue with the blog. I was really excited to be able to put all of my effort into things I really love - like my house:) Then I realized how expensive my taste is and decided I should message the lady I spoke with at the Historical Society meeting about a possible position...

Long story short I start on Monday!

Some of the things we talked about me doing [among others]: organize the entire office, assist in event planning, fundraising strategies, photograph donated historical artifacts, update social media - so pretty much everything I love. There is also an amazing house down the street that belongs to the Society - I also will be part of restoring it back to what it once was - this is the most exciting to me!

It's really hard to believe, but this is even closer to my house than my last job - which was roughly .3 miles away..

Since quitting, I have had this entire week off and have lists of things I plan on doing.
Some of the things I already accomplished  - picking up truck loads of acorns in the yard.
Think of the biggest truck you've ever seen. Now fill that truck with acorns. Now dump said acorns all over my yard and pick them back up again. That's how many acorns we picked up AND how many are still left in the yard.

This is just 4 wheel barrel loads..
I really hope we don't have this many to pick up every year. Our next step is to rototill the entire yard and plant grass seed! We are starting a volunteer group that will receive unlimited beer and food for their hard work! Sign up sheet below.

Also, over the weekend M and I went to the city to search for vintage solid wood doors for the few doors we need in the house. This place was amazing! Rows and rows of doors and other salvage items. We did not purchase any but we are excited to know that they are there and we can rummage when we are officially ready:)
We also made a drop in at MegMade - adorable painted vintage furniture. Beautiful. It is something hubs and I have to strive for one day!

A quick project I worked on:

We have been wanting to do this since we moved in. It feels so good to finally get rid of those bubbly plastic letter that look like that belong in an elementary school classroom. Does it looks like grown ups live here yet?

. . .

So, even though they are small things, I am still checking things off my extremely long list - it feels good:)

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
