friday fancys | magazines

Happy Friday Folks! It's that time again - fancy time!

One of my favorite things to do in my free time is read through my stacks of magazines - I usually get 5-6 each month - more than half of which are design focused.

Here are some of my favorites:

1. Country Living

It's not all about the apples and denim like you may be thinking - country style has really evolved over the last few decades.
I was introduced to CL by a friend and I cringed at the idea of me actually taking this home and reading it. I came around to the idea of it and I really liked most of the trends in here. As you can tell on this front cover - CL works with lots of different textures and colors all in one space and they come together very nicely.
Next time you find yourself in the magazine section in line at the store - flick through a Country Living and let me know if you feel the same way about it as I do:)

2. Better Home and Gardens

I've been reading BHG for years and I keep sticking with it for a reason - I love it! It's very versatile - it gives you some recipes in the back, gardening tips in the middle and design advice in the beginning. If you're looking to start with an inexpensive magazine - I would start here. Now that I have been a subscriber for years, I am able to renew my subscription for about 6 bucks!   That's $.50 an issue! This I would consider a beginner read.

3. Domino

If you are looking for a more advanced read - this beauty is for you. This mag has thick glossy pages that just makes you feel high class - or at least that's how I feel! This is more on the expensive side at about $10-11 an issue and $40 for the year [there are only 4 issues a year] I actually keep all of the Domino issues that I have purchased because I feel like I can look back in the future and find something I love still.

The next two magazines are my all time favorite!

4. HGTV Mag

HGTV Mag has come out in the last 3 years or so and it is everything you could ever ask for in a magazine! This I would say is an intermediate read - for the person who is ready to bring on some projects and design in their home. These issues have such amazing color and design ideas! If you love to watch HGTV on the television, you will love having a tangible version of it in your own hands.

5. Real Simple

I will never stop reading RS - it's like a bible to me. I follow RS on all of the social media sites. I have been receiving this magazine for about 8+ years - it definitely my favorite one of of the bunch. If you are looking to subscribe yourself, I would recommend to buy something from the Container Store. Every time you purchase something from CS you get a printout with your receipt for a discounted rate to Real Simple Magazine! Now you have an excuse to go to the Container Store and buy things:)
RS has organizing tips, cleaning tips, recipes and so much more.

Something I do with all of these magazines as I read through them is tear out pages for inspiration. I have a huge pile that I need to organize right now! When I find time, I usually go through the stack and organize them into categories in a 3-ring binder [bedroom, bathroom, dining, living etc].
Since my constant need to become more of a minimalist - I have decided to take on the project of turning it into a digital version. I will let you know how that goes in about 2017:)

[I did not receive compensation for bringing any of these reads to your attention - but I don't mind if they would like to compensate me:)]

Are you currently a subscriber to any of these magazines? If so, which ones are your favorite and why? I'd love to hear your thoughts:)

Also, if you have ideas on what you want to hear on the next Friday Fancys - shoot me a suggestion and I will see what I can do:) I love hearing from you guys and your thoughts!

Our plans for a surprise for you all have been put on hold due to a migraine last night. You will just have to hold on until next month:) -- that is all I can say about the situation..

Also, thank you all who have shared my blog on your Facebook pages and for bringing me more views to my page! I truly appreciate you for sharing:)

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
