Today is the debut for my Friday Fancys post!
Every Friday I want to do a fun post about "Whatever suits my Fancy"! Things that make me happy that I want to talk about that week - anything. Any topic, any subject - anything. I need ideas from all of you to get me through all 52 weeks this year too!
Recently my best friend reintroduced me into alliterations and I thought this would be the perfect place to expose my new found love:) As I mentioned in my New Year post - making routine posts for you to get excited about is one of my 2015 goals.
I think it goes without saying that my main passion - among other things - is design and all things creative. You may know that about me, but do you know where I get my main inspiration? Do you know what really makes me tick? What really gives me goosebumps when I see a completed space on TV or in real life? Maybe you don't care, maybe you do - if you don't - you should probably hit that little red x in the left corner of the screen - right corner if you're still using Windows.. :)
Anyways..
Featuring Friday Fancys...
My top 5 FAVORITE designers of all time [currently]!
5. Joanna [and Chip] Gaines
These two are the brains of Fixer Upper on HGTV - my life source - based in good ole' Texas. Their motto is buy the worst house on the best block and fix it up - well what do you know, I believe that's what we did!
Joanna has a really fun style in the spaces that I have seen her do on the show. I love the way she layers different textures and elements and it all comes together so smoothly. I can appreciate someone who pays attention to detail and she is definitely one of them:)
Even though Joanna is mainly the designer of the pair - I had to add Chip into the shuffle because the two are just such a great pair - and because he is just such a goof!
I hope one day that Mike and I are as cute as Chip and Joanna.
4. Nate Berkus
Okay, Nate is my guy. I mean look at him - so stylish and handsome. He's just so yummy!
He started off as a featured design expert on Oprah after designing a set for her on the show - "Where ya at O? I need my big break!" He then had his own talk show - which I watched religiously until it went off air in 2011ish - and it was anything a designer could ever ask for in a talk show. Among other things - he has an accessories line at Target that I adore! You will see many things in our home from said line:) He also has a line of glorious fabrics at Joann Fabrics - remember my dining room chairs that I covered back a few months ago? Did I mention he learned all of design-y goodness from his mother? How adorable.
3. Genevieve Gorder
First I would like to point out that her name is alliteration.. So there's that.
Gen and I go waaaay back to Trading Spaces time - circa 2000. If you remember, this is where my passion started - when I was 10 and wearing pigtails. For some it starts early for some it takes time - for me I just knew. Gen helped me get there. She was always the funky designer who wasn't afraid to go "there".
As her style has changed over the years I have begun to really truly appreciate her as a designer. She has great style and taste. I find many choices she makes timeless and unique and I take that into my own home as well.
Gen has also had her fair share of shows and had the honor in hosting as well. Dear Genevieve and this past summer - Genevieve's Renovation. She is also 1 of 3 hosts of Design Star/ HGTV Star.
Overall, I've been a fan of Genevieve for over 15 years and I don't think that's changing anytime soon:)
2. THE Nicole Curtis
I can't even put into words how I feel about Nicole. She has the passion that no one else has for these homes that she puts her hands on. In fact, one of the homes she was unable to save from demolition physically had her in tears at the wreckage site - to feel that strongly about something, I have great respect for her.
As we bring our house back to what it once was, Mike and I ask ourselves - What Would Nicole Curtis Do? Sometimes we don't have the resources to do exactly what she would have done and it makes me cringe to think of the look she would give me.
Thursday evenings are our favorite when Rehab Addict comes on and we hear Nicole's thick Midwest accent "Oh My Gawd - Why would you cover that up?!"
In fact, I had an Atlanta friend ask me how far from Detroit (Nicole is from Detroit and many of her projects are there as well) because my accent was very similar to hers! Ha!
More recently, I had a friend say that I sound like Nicole when I post -- BIGGEST compliment ever! I am currently widening all the doorways for my ego to fit through.
Not only is Nicole a great designer with her unique vintage style and timeless-y classic touches in her spaces but she also has great hair.
I follow many designers on social media and out of them all Nicole is the most real - sometimes almost blunt. I wish I had the guts to say how I really feel on my posts sometimes. Her grammar isn't always proper, she's not always exactly nice - she's just real and honest. I hope that never changes and I love that about her and I want to take that into my values. She is a well known designer without having that well known designer arrogance about her and I respect that greatly:)
One day I hope to be half of Nicole Curtis - not literally, she's only like 5 feet tall!
1. ME!
I did not choose myself out of arrogance. I chose myself for motivation. I one day want someone to say those nice things I've said about these amazing designers, about me. Whether I am meant to be on TV, magazine or just right where I am in my own home, I want someone to feel all tingly when they see my work or jump for joy when my show comes on or google my name when they see a space of mine on Pinterest. I have come a far way and I am still learning and I am not afraid to learn more:)
Thanks so much for coming along with me on Friday Fancys! I hope you enjoyed yourselves - I would love to hear what you think about it & other topics you would like to hear about! Let me know what suits your Fancy:)
