friday fancys | furniture edition

It's Friday folks!

I have many loves in this life and furniture takes top of the list. Vintage furniture to be exact. Nothing makes me happier than a no budget trip to the antique shops - wait, I don't know what that feels like, no budget?
I love having unique pieces that can't be duplicated today. I love how each piece has a story to tell - where it came from and where it's going. Whenever I purchase something, I always ask where it came from and that truly brings it to life.  They are little old souls not ready to leave us yet.

Did I get a little weird on you guys?

These are some of my favorite little fancys;)

*spoiler alert: not everything is technically "furniture"

1. "The teal chair"
Purchased Circa 2007

That's what we call this cutie. This is where it all began - my first piece. Then like a drug I just couldn't kick it.
This used to have rooster fabric that clearly wasn't upholstery fabric - it needed to be ripped off ASAP. I have to reinforce the padding a little and now I'm sure it could stand some more fluff. I got this for $20 bucks so I was okay with spending $80+ on quality upholstery material.
When recovering this, I have a few [talented] friends over the course of a spontaneous weekend assist (basically do all the work while I pretended to help) in bringing this to my standards - and for that I am forever grateful!

I think it's about time that I recover this little guy - what do you guys think?

2. My claw foot tub!
Gift with purchase - 2014
Stamp dated back to the early 1900s

When we were writing down our must haves and dreams list before purchasing a house - claw foot tub was pushed to the dreams portion of the list because there was no way we would find that in a house. Whoa were we wrong! I about died when I walked into the main floor bathroom - died. Basically we signed our contract because of this little tubby. Otherwise, we would have said "See ya!". Just kidding-we would have bought the house regardless of that tub, I would just have to buy one;)
This guy was also in pretty bad shape when we first moved in. It took [someone else's] elbow grease to bring it back to its glory. The inside was all chipped and peeling, the bottom was baby blue - it needed some love. I hired a professional painter over the summer who works specifically with cast iron tubs and it turned out amazing!
For how much I spent on the faucet, I just had to highlight it.

3. Vintage Secretary
Purchased Circa 2013

This masterpiece goes everywhere and anywhere. Hubs and I went to the ghetto to pick it up - that's how much I wanted it. Certain pieces I search and search for until I find THE one. I've been ISO a secretary for quite some time and when I found this little guy - I was ecstatic!  The lady we purchased it from said it was in her family for generations. I told her that I would be taking very good care of it:)
I love all the little compartments that are still intact and undamaged, I love that it is beautiful AND functional, I love that I didn't have to re-stain it - I just love it!

4. Barrister Bookcase
Found 2014

Oh man! This was my most rewarding find!
Barrister bookcases or Lawyer bookcases go for upwards of $700. I scoured all of my vintage furniture sources to see if I could at least grab one for half of that. It was definitely a challenge I wasn't going to give up on. I HAD to have one of my own.

This is 5 separate pieces - made transportation much easier: bottom legs, 3 separate cases and 1 top cap - like piece. Each case has a glass door that swings up and slides back into itself.
I was antiquing with my mother in Indiana when I found this cutie. Hubs knows if he gets a call he better just surrender because it's a lost cause when I set my eyes on a piece I love. The price was already marked down with an extra percentage off and it came out to be $125!! I just can't even believe my luck. I wasn't expecting to spend money at all that day but it's one of those pieces that gets an exception - sort of like a "Hall Pass" but for furniture. Kinky huh?
I just couldn't wait to get him home and fill it with all of my stylish office junk. Still happy about this find:)

I am on a vintage curtain hunt - for basically every remaining room in the house. If you have suggestions on where to look or have some at home, I will be forever grateful! Can't wait to show you guys what I come up with! If I ever find any...

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
