The other day my aunt and I were pulling of the driveway about to do some shopping and someone had pulled off onto the side of the road. He waved us down and asked if I owned the house - it feels so good to say "Yes", although I'm a horrible liar and should have said "I will in 20-30 years."
He informed us that he wasn't a creep [which made me think he might just be a creep - just kidding!] and that he lived in the house two owners ago [from 1993-2001-ish]. He said he was unpacking some boxes and came across something he thought should stay with the house and thought I may like it. He saw that we were doing a lot on the house and thought we were doing a really good job - well duh.
He pulled out two nicely framed photos:
This is the original home owner! Can you even right now?
This was taken over 100 years ago, guys!
I zoomed in so we could go into greater detail.
1. There's a hammock on the porch - I love hammocks!
2. The scalloped siding detail at the peak and throughout is amazing. If you notice on the current photo of the house [must be on computer] at the top of the page this detail is missing. I would like to LOUDLY point out how passionate I am about my house and what I do.
When we were painting the house and adding details with the windows and the little victorian style corbels - I begged our contractor, my uncle - to add scalloped siding exactly where they have it pictured in this photo. When I saw this photo I about fell out of the car [remember I was in the car] how could I know that??
Unfortunately, he said "No" it was going to be too expensive because of labor and material cost. Now that I have seen this photo though, I will bring the house back to its former glory and bring back the scallops.
I'm slowly realizing this is something that ONLY I am excited about pat-on-the-back happy about...
And the star of the show - Mrs. Deadmore. Here's a fun little history fact for ya - in 1898 the first rural bell telephone company in Illinois set up business in New Lenox. The switchboard was located in homes so that 24 hour service could be provided for emergencies. The Deadmore home was the first location for the switchboard and guess where it was - my house!!
I think it's fun to call her Lady Deadmore instead:)
I felt that we belonged on the wall and hopefully we will go down in history just like the original owner - I have to do some research on his name - and Lady Deadmore:)
Here is our little wall of history:]

We invested in the fun family game* Cards Against Humanity and we LOVE it.
*I do not actually recommend this as a family game.
