i now hate my kitchen a little less..

With all of the recent renovations we did on the house we had to push the kitchen back a little bit. On the list of what is functional and not functional - it made the functional list... unfortunately.

Let's revisit all of the large projects we previously did on the house: new roof [ so happy we decided to do this because now we don't have to worry about this for about 15-20 years]. New windows [the others were just not efficient at all and I think it would have taken a lot of time and money to get them back up and running so I did my best to keep our new diamond pattern windows to compliment the time of our Victorian. Although I feel I let Nicole Curtis the Rehab Addict down - I am happy with how our criss cross pattern windows turned out:) Two gutted 3 piece bathrooms [ I would not step in either one of them before the reno - yuck!]. A few new appliances in the kitchen - stainless steel refrigerator, dish washer and sink [we really needed all new appliances but we settled with these]. There were other minor projects that we did - replacing trim and drywall etc, but these were the major projects that we budgeted for that squeezed the kitchen out of the plan. Actually the roof in particular was what replaced the kitchen. We had not planned to replace that ugly green roof but the inspector told us otherwise and we agreed that it would be smarter to do something that would protect our house and everything in it for years to come.

So let's get back on track..

Our kitchen waaaay in the beginning:

Hideous right?? [minus our godsend of a realtor Ivette Hollendoner -she's on Facebook if you're looking for a house! She was amazing with us the entire time - that's her in the photo;)]
Look at all those shutters! With lots of help from mother-in-law, Jane - the first things that came down in the house were those damn shutters - and boy did it just open up the space! Shortly after was that electric blue paint - it reminds me of painters tape.

There are so many wrong things going on with this picture it's kind of like a page in a Highlights magazine "What doesn't belong here?"

[inserted for effect]

Here is the next before:

What a surprise we painted the walls grey..

And exposed the shutterless windows but the space was still a little bare and cold. We also replaced that ugly fan with help from my mom with another Craigslist find.

And this is what our little breakfast area looks like now!

A couple of my vintage finds all packed into one photo:
+ Mike's grandma's mom's (I believe) stool that stayed in her kitchen - the little steps rotate back into itself which is really neat and nice for storing.
+ My round kitchen table that I search for years to find - I am madly, deeply in love with:)
+ Of course my secretary - it literally goes anywhere in my house, anywhere. It's a curse and a blessing at the same time.

This is a close up of the curtain pattern - oh, and our Christmas cards (top photo)! They are Nate Berkus from Target - they can be found  HERE. I love that they are subtle grey in color but fun origami pattern at the same time:)

It's crazy what curtains can do to a space! Our cold feeling breakfast area is now a little more homey and on the path to me maybe actually liking it! I can't wait to add a little more personality to the rest of the kitchen:)

We all know how I feel about before and after of heat registers! Well look at these from the kitchen! Sometimes I feel like the small details get lost in a project but it's really the small things that make the project and finish it off. Sort of like jewelry to an outfit - sounds weird coming from a person who doesn't wear jewelry huh?

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

certains things just belong at home..

The other day my aunt and I were pulling of the driveway about to do some shopping and someone had pulled off onto the side of the road. He waved us down and asked if I owned the house - it feels so good to say "Yes", although I'm a horrible liar and should have said "I will in 20-30 years."  He informed us that he wasn't a creep [which made me think he might just be a creep - just kidding!] and that he lived in the house two owners ago [from 1993-2001-ish]. He said he was unpacking some boxes and came across something he thought should stay with the house and thought I may like it. He saw that we were doing a lot on the house and thought we were doing a really good job - well duh.  He pulled out two nicely framed photos: This is the original home owner! Can you even right now? This was taken over 100 years ago, guys!     I zoomed in so we could go into greater detail. 1. There's a hammock on the porch - I love hammocks!...

Friday Fancys!

Today is the debut for my Friday Fancys post!  Every Friday I want to do a fun post about "Whatever suits my Fancy"! Things that make me happy that I want to talk about that week - anything. Any topic, any subject - anything. I need ideas from all of you to get me through all 52 weeks this year too!  Recently my best friend reintroduced me into alliterations and I thought this would be the perfect place to expose my new found love:) As I mentioned in my New Year post - making routine posts for you to get excited about is one of my 2015 goals. I think it goes without saying that my main passion - among other things - is design and all things creative. You may know that about me, but do you know where I get my main inspiration? Do you know what really makes me tick? What really gives me goosebumps when I see a completed space on TV or in real life? Maybe you don't care, maybe you do - if you don't - you should probably hit that little red x in the left co...
