every princess deserves a crown

I am only posting this because I am super excited about having the crown molding installed in the main living space today! We have been waiting since June for this to be done - so bare with me as I jump with joy about wood:)

So I would like to warn you that in no way are these rooms completed. Although, I'm sure you can probably tell from the photos... Let's just call them "durings".

the dining | before

I mean who wouldn't want to serve Thanksgiving dinner in a dining room this color?

Please take note in the ugly pea green color of the heat registers also, please!

of course we kept this adorable oil lamp light:)

This was awful to take down. Just awful!

My glorious bay window!

Long story short: we (and by we, I mean my husband and his sisters boyfriend) tore down the entire ceiling in the dining, living and foyer because there was old knob and tube wiring in the ceiling (basically we lived in a death trap-google it). So to cut down on costs we had them leave the corners rough (you can see in some of the photos below) and we would just put up crown that my parents had from other projects.

I honestly think it took the boys at least 4 showers to get clean from all of this mess!

I stepped outside of my very boring, grey box and painted the dining a nice soft blue. Although, I still want it to be grey. If I had it my way, every room in the house would be grey. Every room.

I apologize for the mess - we are still without key pieces in the dining, such as, a china cabinet to hold all of our china and serving wear.

Nice new fan! We have painted the ceiling about 100 times and it still won't cover properly...

This is how we have been living for the last few months but we now finally have the crown up and I really think it just finishes off the space:)

* Just another warning that this is NOT the final product. I just got too excited to not show you guys the new crown on the mail level:)

If you remember the before, the heat registers were an ugly taupe-ish color. Not anymore! A nice long scrub in the yard (omg they were awful) and a smooth coat of spray paint and they are totally different!

New adorable Nate Berkus curtains from Target were necessary not only to block out the glare on the TV, but also to suggest some privacy and coziness.
The photo in the corner I found with a friend at a garage sale for two bucks and I'm in love with it!
We have many more plans for this space but this works for us for the time being:)

We are struggling with whether or not we should hang the TV on the wall. With the wall being plaster, we are not sure it is a good idea--suggestions are welcomed.

Well, there you have it people, our house currently. We are still working on the Master but we have found we need a few expensive pieces in order to finish the project-donations are accepted:)

Thanks for stopping' by!

Whoa! | Bathroom REupdate

Well it's been pretty damn long since I've given you guys any good stuff lately. I failed miserably at the OCD challenge last year and for that I am sorry. BUT we are back in action and we have decided to stick with working on one room at a time but not necessarily finish in a month's time. This really allows us to focus on one space and pay attention to every detail and really perfect it.  The first project of the year was the main bathroom. You may be saying "Hey, didn't she already do that one?" . Yes. Yes we did. I am a perfectionist and I knew it needed to be done again. I wasn't happy with the wall color and there were too many unfinished projects in the space. It was somewhat embarrassing when we had guests over and it looked like a Sundance film production office (whatever that looks like, I just made that up) exploded in there. I think it wasn't completed for so long because I was sort of scared to do some of the projects that needed to b...

in with the old | my best thrift finds

*as you read through this post, have  Thrift Shop by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore  [link attached] play in the background, as I did when I was posting this:)  My husband is - for lack of a better word - cheap. He means well, but it really puts a wrench in most of my design plans. This just makes me work ten times harder to find the best deal out there and still maintain the integrity of my design.  Where do you go for such deals you ask?  Goodwill, duh!  I'm obsessed. Luckily I can soothe my infatuations less than a mile from my house!  Of course I also take a stop into TJ Maxx that's right next door and Pot Belly's too, but that's a topic for another day..  I usually get to GW once a week and I can definitely tell when I haven't been in awhile. ...wow, it really is sounding like an addiction, huh? First, I scout out the furniture - usually I don't find anything because a) It's already been picked through or b) it's t...

our upstairs bath | total gut

This is probably to biggest demo project on the house. This is the yucky space previously known as "the bathroom". Yes, that is my husband in the reflection:) Apparently we forgot to get better "before" photos.. The dimensions of the room were 4x9--not even wide enough for a tub! So this was our first mission when planning out this tiny bath-make room for tub!  Here's a fun little fact: this is the only room in the house that I didn't step more than 2 feet in the doorway. That's how bad this space was!  Here's some fun demo that I luckily did not have to take part in any of it, not even clean up! This is the view coming from the front bedroom on the house. We also did some knocking down of walls and putting up of walls in this room. Luckily it was big enough and didn't take away too much space.  Little bro, pretending to help with the demo...  And this is the guy who was the muscle in all of this:)  ...
